About us

  • The Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board is a statutory and autonomous body constituted by the Government under the provisions of Biological Diversity Act 2002 (Central Act).
  • The Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board consists of a Chairman, Member Secretary, 4 ex-officio members and 5 expert members appointed by the State Government.
  • The Chairman and the members of the Board were appointed by the Government vide G.O.Ms.No.68, EFS&T Department, dt.11.05.2006 and subsequently reconstituted from time to time.
  • The Member Secretary, Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, Hyderabad is the convener of the Board meetings as well as the Expert Committee meetings.

Objectives

  • Conservation of Biological Diversity.

  • The fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources



Functions of A.P.State Biodiversity Board as per Section 23 of Biological Diversity Act 2002:

  • Advise the State Government subject to any guidelines issued by the Central Government on matters relating to conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of its components and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of biological resources.
  • Regulate by granting of approvals or otherwise, requests for commercial utilization or bio-survey and bio-utilization of any biological resource by Indians.
  • Perform such other functions as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act or as may be prescribed by the State Government.




Vision

  1. To facilitate the constitution of biodiversity management committees at local body level.
  2. To facilitate preparation of people's biodiversity registers in the areas of potential bioresources.
  3. To develop district biodiversity parks depicting forest, agriculture, wetland & marine ecosystems for conservation, education & recreation.
  4. To establish a state level marine biodiversity park & museum.
  5. To identify biodiversity heritage sites for notification.
  6. To create Andhra Pradesh biodiversity information system.
  7. To take up capacity building, training and awareness programmes about the provisions of the biodiversity act & rules.
  8. To identify and conserve distinct, endemic land-races, breeds and other flora & fauna.
  9. To revive & promote traditionally cultivated crop varieties in different agro-climatic zones.
  10. To advise the government on water harvesting, tree planting, organic farming, urban greening and preparation of city biodiversity index.
